Tesla's robotaxi now available in Miami

Signals Inbox·July 3, 2026·Autonomous Systems

This is no longer just an Austin thing. Tesla is now trying to prove it can add real cities, one after another, and make Robotaxi feel like an actual ride-hailing service.

The Signal, Explained in 3 Minutes

Q1What actually happened?

Tesla announced on July 3, 2026 that Robotaxi is now available in Miami. On Tesla’s Robotaxi page, Miami now sits next to Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Q2Can anyone in Miami use it now?

Not in the full Uber-style sense. Tesla says Robotaxi is available in limited areas, and the app shows the service map based on where you are.

Q3Which cities came before Miami?

Austin came first in June 2025. Then Tesla added Dallas and Houston. Miami joined on July 3, 2026. That makes Miami the fourth city Tesla currently lists for Robotaxi rides: Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Miami.

Q4Why Miami?

Because, actually, Miami is not an easy city to drive in. You have rain, tourists, aggressive drivers, dense roads, bridges, weird pickups, and a lot of messy real-world situations. So, if Tesla wants Robotaxi to work outside friendly test zones, Miami is a useful place to prove it.

Q5Is Tesla expanding faster now?

Yes, compared with where it was before. For years, Robotaxi felt like a promise. Then Austin finally launched in June 2025. Now, about a year later, Tesla is listing four cities. That is real progress.

Q6How does this compare with Waymo?

Waymo is still ahead. Waymo opened Miami to public riders in January 2026, before Tesla. It also has more cities, more driverless history, and a bigger public service footprint.

Q7What cities could be next?

Tesla has previously pointed to places like Phoenix, Orlando, Tampa, and Las Vegas. But nothing has been confirmed
