Tesla is building Starlink V5 directly into Cybercab alongside 5G and GPS. That sounds like a connectivity upgrade, but the bigger signal is that Tesla does not want its future robotaxi fleet to depend on one mobile network, especially as it pushes into more cities and eventually replaces today’s Model Y robotaxis with a purpose-built vehicle.

Tesla officially revealed that a Starlink V5 terminal will be built directly into Cybercab. Its hardware diagram places Starlink in the roof beside a 5G LTE antenna, GPS hardware, cameras, microphones, and the car’s self-driving computer. Tesla did not publish speeds, pricing, or exactly how the connection will be used.
Q2Why does a robotaxi need Starlink?
Probably for resilience. A robotaxi still needs to send diagnostics, receive software updates, report its location, contact fleet operators, and ask for help when something unusual happens. Cellular networks can become weak or overloaded. Starlink gives Tesla a second path to the vehicle when 5G is unavailable.

It should not. The driving system needs to make safety decisions inside the car because any network can lose signal or gain latency. Starlink is more likely to support fleet operations, maps, monitoring, remote assistance, updates, and passenger connectivity.
