Monid is replacing Apify’s $199 plan with pay-as-you-go scraping

Signals Inbox·July 20, 2026·AI Agents

Monid is giving AI agents pay-per-request access to social data from X, Reddit, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Rednote, and Amazon. The headline price starts at $0.0015 per request, but the bigger move is turning scraping tools from separate software subscriptions into services an agent can discover and buy while it works.

The Signal, Explained in 3 Minutes

Q1What actually launched?

Monid says agents can now access social data from nine major platforms without opening separate accounts or subscriptions. The official announcement puts the starting price at $0.0015 per request. Its pricing documentation says each endpoint has its own price, so that number is a starting point, not one universal rate.

Q2Is Monid really replacing Apify?

Not exactly. Monid is mainly a router and payment layer. An agent describes the data it needs, Monid finds a suitable endpoint, runs it, and charges one shared balance. It can route work to outside providers, including scraping services. The pitch is less about rebuilding every scraper and more about hiding the messy market behind one connection.

Q3Is the $199 comparison fair?

Only partly. Apify does have a $199 Scale plan, but it also offers a free plan with $5 of usage and a $29 Starter plan. Its subscriptions include spending credits, while extra usage is already metered. So Monid is not replacing a simple $199 access fee. It is challenging Apify’s mix of monthly credits, compute pricing, and separate Actor charges with a cleaner pay-per-call story.

Q4Where does the cost difference become real?

For occasional calls. At $0.0015 each, 10,000 requests would start around $15 before endpoint-specific charges. That is far below a $199 monthly plan when an agent only needs small bursts of data. But high-volume scraping can change the math quickly, and the cheapest request may return less data than a larger Apify run. Price per useful result matters more than price per call.

Q5Why does this matter specifically for AI agents?

Traditional software assumes a person chooses a vendor, creates an account, enters a card, and keeps a subscription. Agents need something different. They may need an Instagram scraper once, an Amazon endpoint twice, and a LinkedIn tool next week. Monid is building for that behavior: discover the tool during the task, buy one call, collect the result, and move on.

Q6What is the real point of tension?

Agent infrastructure is moving from fixed software seats toward tiny machine-made purchases. Monid already connects agents to more than 1,500 tools and APIs, so social scraping is one visible test of a much larger idea. The open question is whether one router can match specialist platforms on reliability, data quality, speed, and legal compliance. Cheap access gets attention. Consistent results decide whether teams actually switch.
