Archer is building downtown LA’s first vertiport before 2028
Archer and AEG plan to develop a vertiport at L.A. LIVE, giving the air-taxi industry something it badly needs: a downtown destination people actually want to reach. The project is still subject to feasibility, permitting and certification, but it moves the eVTOL story from aircraft prototypes toward urban infrastructure ahead of the 2028 Games.

Q1What did Archer officially announce?
Archer and AEG announced an exclusive multi-year partnership to study and develop a vertiport at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. Archer calls it the first announced downtown site in its planned Los Angeles network.
Q2Is the vertiport definitely opening before 2028?
Not yet. The parties are beginning feasibility and development work, and any operation still depends on local approvals plus aircraft certification. The LA28 timing is the strategic target, not a guaranteed opening date. No US eVTOL operator has completed the full commercial certification path yet.
Q3Why is L.A. LIVE strategically useful?
It is a dense 4 million square foot entertainment district next to major sports and event venues. Archer has also identified potential nodes around SoFi Stadium, USC, Burbank and its Hawthorne operating hub. A downtown anchor makes the network more useful than a collection of peripheral airports.
Q4What does a vertiport need besides a landing pad?
Passenger handling, charging, fire and safety systems, airspace procedures, maintenance access and ground transportation all have to work together. Noise and neighborhood acceptance matter too. The hard part of urban air mobility is increasingly the system around the aircraft, not only the aircraft itself.
Q5What should we watch next?
Permits, construction and FAA certification of Archer's Midnight aircraft. A signed real-estate partnership is valuable because infrastructure lead times are long, but the commercial network only becomes real when certified aircraft and approved sites arrive at roughly the same time.
