Aspera unveils a 1,000-kg water-runway aircraft
Aspera is pitching a cargo aircraft that uses water instead of prepared runways, carries 1,000 kilograms, and targets trips up to 2,000 kilometers. If the economics hold, the interesting market is freight between places where airports are the expensive part.

Q1What is Aspera officially building?
Aspera founder Khushi's official account describes the startup's first aircraft as a water-operating cargo platform. Published targets include a 1,000-kilogram payload and routes up to roughly 2,000 kilometers.
Q2Why use water as the runway?
Airports are expensive fixed infrastructure. Coastal towns, islands, lakes, and remote industrial sites may have water access but no long runway. A useful seaplane can move cargo without waiting for a new airport.
Q3Is the $1 per tonne-kilometer target aggressive?
Very. Air freight usually costs far more than surface transport. For now it is a company target, not a proven fleet-wide operating cost, so utilization, maintenance, fuel, and certification will decide whether it survives contact with reality.
Q4What is the real test?
Certification and repeated operations on real water. Seaplanes already exist, so Aspera has to prove its promised cost, payload, range, saltwater durability, and turnaround time.
